In 2009, some researcher makes research about Komodo’s Venom. They found two glands in the lower jaw. This venom has different toxic protein. the known of these proteins includes inhibition of blood clotting, lowering of blood pressure, muscle paralysis and the induction of hypothermia, leading to shock and loss of consciousness in envenomated prey.
They have a true venom gland in the lower jaw. They also get potentially dangerous bacteria into their mouth because of the feeding on carcasses. After they bite their prey, they only will wait until their prey fall dies slowly before eating them.
In their saliva also contain a variety of highly septic bacteria that would help bring down their prey.
Komodo dragon prefers to live in hot and dry places and typically lived in open grassland, savanna and tropical forest at low elevations. They are capable of running rapidly in brief sprints up to 20km/h (12 mph).
Mating begins between May and August. In September, they laid eggs as many as 20 eggs are deposited at a time in an abandoned megapode nest or in a self-dug nesting hole. The eggs are incubated for seven to eight months, hatching in April, when insects are most plentiful. Young Komodo dragons are vulnerable and therefore dwell in trees, safe from predators and cannibalistic adults. They take 8 to 9 years to mature and are estimated to live up to 30 years.
